Mr H. E. Herring, M.P., returned to Ashburton this morning after a holiday in Auckland. t
The Rev. H. J. W. Knights, of Rakaia, is on a visit to the West Coast. He is accompanied by Mrs Knights.
Mr P. Cramer (official representative in New Zealand and Aiistralia for the Berlin Olympic Games) passed through Ashburton on the south-bound express this morning.
The Venerable Archdeacon A. J. iPotrie and Mrs Petrie, who have been camping at the Clarence River and Awatere, will return to Ashburton this afternoon.
Captain N. E. Bicknell and Mrs Bicknell, who are remaining for a further term as officers in charge of the Ashburton Salvation Army, were entertained at supper by the band after its practice last evening. Speakers referred to the interest Captain and Mrs Bicknell had taken in the band's welfare, expressing satisfaction that they were remaining. Bandmaster G. E. Ai-gyle, for the members, handed to Captain and Mrs Bicknell a .small token in appreciation of their services.
