ACT TO BECOME OPERATIVE. (United Press Association—Copyright.) LONDON, January 13. The India Office announces that to give effect to the Government of India and of Burma Acts, prescribing That as from the date provisional autonomy comes into operation, Burma shall cease to be a province of India, and to define sums payable by Burma to India, the Secretarv for India (the Marquess of Zetland)' has adopted, subject to minor modifications, the recommendations of the tribunal presided over by Mr L. S. Amery.

The secretary has appointed an application committee to draw up a statement of the assets and liabilities of the Central Government of India at the date of separation and to advise the Secretary of State on the assessment sum to be paid by Burma. The committee will be guided by the recommendations of the tribunal.— British Official Wireless.
