THE GAME IN THE COUNTY. THIRD ROUND ARRANGED. One more round in the Ashburton County Cricket Association’s senior and junior competitions will be played this season, according to a decision at the meeting of the Management Committee of the Association last evening. The president (Mi* F. Pritchard) was in the chair. It was reported that two rounds were completed last Saturday. Correspondence was received from the Canterbury Cricket Association thanking tlie Ashburton Association for its hospitality to the Canterbury team on its visit to Ashburton. The Canterbury Association also wrote asking the opinion of the Ashburton Association on the City and Suburban Association’s desire to enter a. late challenge for the Minor Associations’ Shield. It was explained that the City and Suburban Association had overlooked the closing date for challenges. The letter expressed the opinion that the acceptance of the challenge might establish a. dangerous precedent. • In view of the fact that the competition was a new one, it was decided-to accept the challenge without prejudice, providing a date acceptable to the Ashburton Association could be agreed upon. Reporting on the recent representative match against South Canterbury, Mr J. B. Nicoll said that the fixture went off very successfully, the Ashburton team playing remarkably well. There was a good attendance of the public on both days, but both the team and public were disappointed that the South Canterbury team did! not stay to complete play on the afternoon or the second day. Owing to & default without notice to Technical in a junior match on Saturday, it was decided to write to the Coldstream Club asking why it should not be fined according to the Association’s rules. . The Association was inclined to take a serious view of the matter, it was explained, because the Technical Club had been’put to some expense in making arrangements for the match.
