RUN OVER BY TRUCK. RAILWAY EMPLOYEE INJURED. (Per Press Association). CHRISTCHURCH, January 13. Slipping on part of a cattle stop? made greasy by misty.rain, Mr Patrick O’Callaghan, a railway employee at Springfield, fell in front of a number of trucks which were being shunted in the yard this evening, and the wheels of one truck pased over one of his legs just below the knee and practically severed it. Mr O’Callagiian had been riding on one of the trucks while shunting and slipped off on to the board alongside the cattle stop. He failed to gain a foothold and fell, one leg crossing the track. Mr O’Callaghan, after medical attention on the spot, was brought to the Christchurch hospital. MINER FATALLY INJURED. INVERCARGILL, January 13. A fatal accident occurred this morning at the Linton coal mine. A full box of coal ran over a jighead, and severely crushed Mr John McLeod, a married man, aged 60. His right thigh and several ribs were broken. Ho was taken in an ambulance from Oliai to the Southland hospital ; but he died at 5 o’clock.
