ROAD UNDER THAMES.
A £3,000,000 ENTERPRISE. United Press Association —Copyright) LONDON, January 11. A great scheme for a road tunnel under’the River Thames between Dartford and Purfleet, to provide a short cwt , for traffic from Kent and the south-east coast into Essex and East Anglia, was advanced considerably advanced by a conference between the Ministry of Transport and a joint committee of the Kent and Essex County Councils. The Minister for Transport (Mr L. Hore-Belisha) approved revised plans for driving the' tunnel at a greater depth to allow of deepening the river channel.
It is hoped that work may commence this year. The tunnel which is estimated to cost £3,000,000, will take five years to build.—British Official Wireless.
