A CRITICAL STAGE.
JAPAN AND NAVAL CONFERENCE DECISION ON PLAN AWAITED. (United Press Association—Copyright.) LONDON, January 9. It is understood that at the Naval Conference the Japanese strongly objected to a discussion of other plans until the question of a common upper limit was determined. The opinion is generally expressed that the position of the conference is most delicate. The conference met again for about two hours yesterday. Three plans, submitted by the French, United Kingdom and Italian delegations respectively, providing for quantitative limitation of naval armaments by means of notification and the exchange of building pi’ogrammes were examined by the First Coinmittee.
The French and Italian delegates proceeded to elaborate their plans, and the Japanese delegation offered their observations on certain features of the The discussion was adjourned till Friday.
