CROQUET.
SOUTH ISLAND TOURNEY. GOOD PROGRESS YESTERDAY. .The South Island croquet championships were continued at Timaru yesterday in dull but fine weather. . Good progress was made during the day, one final being played, while the finalists in another section were found. In the final of the first section of the handicap singles, Mrs /Patchett beat W. H. Kirk.
Following are details of games in which Ashburton players took part, with Ashburton names first: — Women’s Championship . Singles — Mrs Oleary lost to Mrs Rinaldi, 15-26.
Championship Doubles—Mesdames Cleary and Forsyth lost to Mr and Mrs Kirk, 5-26; J. Thompson and Mrs Thompson lost to Penn and Mrs Palmer, 10-26. Handicap Singles—Mrs H. Thompson lost to Mrs Patchett, 22-26; Jas. Thompson beat Mrs Forsyth, 26-12; Penn beat'Thompson, 26-13. THE ASHBURTON CLUB. THE DRAW FOR TO-MORROW. The following i s the Ashburton Croquet Club’s draw for to-morrow: — 2 p.m.—Miss Moore and Mrs Fletcher v. Mesdames Meikleham and R. J. Thompson; Mesdames Williams and l Bond v. Mesdames Osman and Buxton; Miss Bramley and Mrs Acton y. Mesdames Meddius and Christie. 4 p.m. —Mrs A. Amos and scorer.
