STATE GOVERNMENT ACTION. MEN IN INTER-STATE TRADE. (United Press Association—Copyright.) (Received This Day, 10.25' a.m.) SYDNEY, This Day. Tlie State Government has decided to intervene in the shipping strike as far as inter-i State ships are concerned. The Minister of Labour (Mr Dunnlngham) has ordered that a secret ballot of members of the crews of the coastal boats be taken. The captains of the vessels concerned were instructed by wireless to act as deputyreturning officers in the taking of tho secret ballots on question whether the men are in favour of a strike or not. The ballots will be decided before the vessels reach port. It is understood that there are ten vessels at sea. ISSUE OF LICENSES BY POST. TO AVOID UNION PICKETING. (Received This Day, 12.5 p.m.) MELBOURNE, This Day. \The Attorney-General (Mr 11. G. Menzies) has announced that in order that applicants for seamen’s licenses may not have to run the gauntlet of union pickets at the licensing office, he has decided to issue licenses in Sydney by post.
