COUNTY CENTRES

(From Our Own Correspondent.) LYNDHURST. The bachelors of the Lyndhurst district organised a New Year's dance, which was held in the Lyndhurst Hall. There was an attendance of about 300. Novelty dances were won by Miss J. Oleeve and Mr Ray Lilley, and Mr S. Thompson and partner. Mrs Mitchell's orchestra (Ashburton) played the music, with extras by Mrs E. A. Bland and Mr Bland, jun. Mr J. Davison and Mr J. Lysaght were masters of ceremonies. LOWCLIFFE. On Saturday, in perfect weather, the Lowcliffe Women's Institute held a most enjoyable afternoon for the children. A -happy time was spent in games, scrambles for lollies, fruit and nuts, etc. After afternoon tea and cold drinks were served, the children were each presented with a parcel off the Christmas tree. MONTALTO. The rainfall at Montalto during December totalled 1.93 inches, compared with 4.73 in November and 3.49 in October.
