NEW ZEALAND CHAMPIONSHIPS. HEAVY SHOWERS AFFECT GREENS. (Per Press Association.) CHRISTCHURCH, This Day. Heavy showers of rain this morning again affected the greens for continuation of play in the New Zealand Bowling Championships, when post-section-al games in the singles were begun. The winners of all the five games played yesterday carried on this morning as two-lifers, and those who had Avon or tied as winners of their section with one or more losses played as one-lifers. The weather which was threatening at the start of play, improved by 10 o'clock, and the greens became faster. In the early stages, after heavy showers •before 9 o'clock had considerably softened the greens, the effect was noticeable. Many players had difficulty in getting the feel of the greens, and'many short bowls were sent down. Results were as follow.: St. Albans Green. (Two Lifers.) AUSTRALIAN PARTY ARRIVES. AUCKLAND, January 6. To compete in the pairs and rinks competitions of the New Zealand bowling championships in Christchurch, and later play matches in various centres, a team of New South Wales bowlers arrived this morning. The party consists of 21 players, Mr T. W. Heath, president of the New South Wales Bowling Association, being in charge, with Mr A. E. Packer, ex-Mayor of Katoomba, team manager. After the championships the team will play at Wellington on January 16-19, Palmerston January 20, Wanganui January 21, New Plymouth January 22, Rotorua January 23-27, Auckland January 28-31, sailing on the latter date for home. "We have not brought a very strong team, but have some good players, and hope to give a good account of ourselves," said Mr Heath. He added that the game in New South Wales was improving in standard and increasing in popularity.
