SKULL FRACTURED
HIGHBANK MAN INJURED. FALL FROM MOTOR-TRUCK. IN A CRITICAL CONDITION. Falling off a motor-truck at Methven Yesterday, Mr Richard Law, a farmhand, of Highbank, fractured Ins skull and received laceration of the scalp. His condition was critical when he was admitted to the Ashburton Public Hospital. His condition was reported to be unchanged this afternoon. LAD’S HAND IN STRIPPER. Catching his hand in a stripper on Tuesday, John Anstey, aged 10, son of Mr W. M. Anstey, of Lowcliffe, had several fingers crushed. He was admitted to the Ashburton Public Hospital, where his condition is reported to be satisfactory. MAN FAJALLY INJURED BY CAR WELLINGTON, January 2. Mr Joseph Stent, of Newtown, was knocked down by a motor car while crossing Jervois Quay and died in hospital two hours later from severe injuries to his head. DROWNED WHILE BATHING. WELLINGTON, January 2. At an inquest into the death of Williams HSllock, who died while bathing in the Hutt river on Boxing Day, support was not given to an assumption that he had a seizure while in the water. Dr. Lynch who conducted a post-mortem examination, said there was no organic disease to cause a seizure. He suggested that Hillocn got cramp and that it was the usual drovr**ing of the type. A verdict that Hillock was drowned while bathing was returned. MOTORIST’S NARROW ESCAPE. NEW PLYMOUTH, January 1. A remarkable escape from injury was experienced by Leslie Tremain, aged 23, a farm hand, of Inaha, when a touring car left the Main South Road at Corrigan’s Hill, near Hawera at 1.30 a.m. to-day and plunged into some willow trees. A thick limb swept the hood off the car and pushed the steering wheel into the back seat, but Tremain, who is in hospital, escaped serious injury. There was no one else in the car.
