(From Our Own Correspondent.) METHVEN. The following are the meteorological observations for December recorded by Mr Janies Carr, “Rudstone,” Metliven : Rain fell on 10 days, the maximum on any one day being 137 points on the 29th. The total for the month was 2.32 inches, compared with .58 inches for December last year. The average fall for December for the last 27 years is 3.88 inches. The driest December during that period was in 1934, when only .58 inches was recorded, and the wettest in 1911, when 10.72 inches fell. Th<w£otal fall for the year is 35.90 inches, compared with, 38.77 inches last year, and an average of 38.20 inches for the last 26 years. The driest year in that period was in 1915, when 25.25 inches fell, and the wettest was in 1925, when the fall was 50.15 inches. The highest reading of the barometer for the month was 30.24 on the 2nd, and the lowest value 29.78 on the 12th and 13th*. The highest reading of the maximum thermometer was 84 on the 26th, and the lowest reading of the minimum thermometer was 40 on the 30th. The lowest minimum on the grass was 26 on the 30th. Frosts were recorded on two nights. The range of temperature for the month was 18.7, and the average mean temperature was 62.9. The average maximum temperature for the month was 72.3, which is a record since Mr Carr has been keeping records. ANAMA The rainfall recorded at “Laggnn,” Annina, in December was 227 points, while that for the same month last year was 252 points. The total for the year is 3214 points, while that recorded for the year 1934 was 3835 points, being a little over six inches less for the year just ended. The totals for the last five years are: 1931, 2925 points; 1932, 3426; 1933, 3073; 1934, 3835; 1935, 32i4. Shearing is about finished in the district. The wool this year was particularly bright and : good. The sowing of turnips is going on. The earlier sown turnips and the rape crops are coming away well, having benefited greatly by the recent rains. Harvest will not be ready for some time. The crops promise exceptional yields. Feed is in plentiful and all stock are looking well. HINDS. The Hinds Hall Committee held an enjoyable and successful dance in the hall on New Year's Eve. The hall was prettily decorated in coloured streamers. The music was supplied by Morris's orchestra, and an extra was played by Miss L. ’Dellow. A Monte Carlo one-step was won by Miss I. Bird and Mr A. Clark, and the Monte Carlo foxtrot was won by Miss E. Ridden and Mr A. McLaren. Mr J. Hall was M.C.
