HORRIFIED AND ENRAGED.

ALL SWEDEN IN MOURNING. GUARDS FOR ITALIAN LEGATION STOCKHOLM, January 1. The New Year celebrations were overcast by the news of the bombing. The countrv was filled with horror and indignation by the tidings, which were spread by special editions of the newspapers and also by wireless. The press and the populace express the most bitter resentment toward Italy. The newspaper ‘ Dagens Nyheter" suggests that the dispatch of a new ambulance to Abyssinia is the most fitting retort to “Italy’s unheard of outThe people are hostile to all Italians here particularly the Minister (the Marquis’ de Palermo) whose Legation the police are specially guarding. Broadcasting programmes were changed from cabaret to classical music, flags are flown at half-mast, and a national subscription has been opened. . . ' . The Emperor Haile Selassie has telegraphed his condolences to Crown Prince Carl, president of the Red Cross, who, like Government officials at present, declines to comment on the bombing though Swedish diplomats at Rome and Addis Ababa have been urgently instructed to dispatch reports of the occurrence, which a leading newspaper denounces as a crime against international law, and terrible evidence of the ferocity of Italian warfare, stamping it as a barbarous operation.
