SCHOOL CONCERT
SUCCESS AT WILLOWBY. PROGRAMME BY CHILDREN. The annual prize-giving and breakup concert of tlie Willowby School was held in the hall on Thursday evening before a large and appreciative audience of parents and friends. Air H. Griffiths was in the chair. The headmaster (Mr Hodges) gave a comprehensive report of the school work. He emphasised the need of conscientious thoroughness in- each phase of. life. Tl|e. programme presented by the children reflected great credit on the teachers, Air Hodges and Aliss McNeil, and was as follows: Song, “Over The Hills,” juniors; song, “Under tho Greenwood Tree,” seniors; quartette, “Loreley,” Eunice Cone, Elaine Lill, Iris and Stephen Cone;, song, “Blow Away the Morning Dow,” juniors; recitation, “Poor Pup,” Margery Chapman; recitation, “A Visit to tho Doctor,” Helen Hillyer; French song, “Savez-vous Planter les Choux,” juniors ; recitation, “Stocking Tune,” Elaine Knox; French song, “La Marseillaise,” seniors; recitation, “Daffodils,” Alae Chapman; play, “The Lost-Alist-Cap,” standards 111. and IV.; quartette by twins “Hoea Ra,” Eunico and Iris Cone, Helen and George Hillyer; pianoforte duet, Flora and Hugh Pearce; round, “Come, Follow He,” seniors; recitation, “I Remembei, Phyllis Lattimore; chorus “Fair Shines the Moon so Bright,” seniors; pianoforte solo, Phyllis Lattimore; recitation, “Sherwood,” Stephen Cone; recitation, “A Greeting,” Norman Whiting; play, “Alice on the iSea Shore, Albert Alclntosh, Eunice Cone and May Pearson. Aliss Hodges sang “Alaori Maiden, for which she received a recall, Aliss Alma Watts contributed ■ a pianoforte solo, Air Gborgo Dakers played a guitar selection. In both instances encore numbers were given. Air S. H. Lill recited “At tho Pantomime,” and at a recall, “The Bachelor Sale.” Encores were demanded for several of the juvenile items also. Aliss McNeil and All Hodges were the accompanists. Airs' Griffiths presented the prizes as published yesterday, each school child received a hook. The Rev. R. MacGregor delivered a short address. . Ice-cream and sweets were provided for tho scholars by tho committee.. An important feature was the presentation of a week-end handbag to Aliss AlcNeil as a token of regard from the school children. Aliss McNeil leaves Willowby this month to take up teaching at Marshlands School. Malcolm Robertson handed tho gift to Aliss McNeil and Alae Chapman in a neat little sneech voiced the good wishes oi the children and expressed regret at her departure. On behalf of the residents of the district Air ft. J. Chapman spoke m similar terms. Air Hodges, Mr Whiting and Air Griffiths also added tributes to the esteem in which Aliss AlcNeil is held by all. Supper was served and at the conclusion of the entertainment Mr Griffiths wished all seasonal greetings.
