LAST RESPECTS PAID.

FUNERAL OF MR H. J. CHAPMAN. LARGE NUMBER ATTEND. The funeral of Mr H. J. Chapman, which took place at the Ashburton Cemetery this afternoon, was attended by a very large number of friends and members of public bodies wit A which Mr Chapman was associated. The bearers were Messrs G. Day, A. Sutherland, J. Keig and John Arnst. The service at the house and that at the graveside* were conducted by the Venerable Archdeacon A. J. Petrie. The Ashburton Silver Band attended at the cemetery and played two verses of “Jesu, Lover of My Soul.” Among those present were: Messrs J. C. C. McLachlan, H. R. D. Porter and A. Doig (representing the Ashburton Rugby Union), J. B. Cullen, F. Crum and F. Porter (Ashburton Wrestling Association), W. S. Kerr, E. H. Childs, H. Money (Ashburton East School Committee), R. J. Thompson (Ashburton Technical High School), J. T. Thomas and D. F. Macdonald (Ashburton Primary Schools’ Sports Association), M. Macmillan and M. C. Knox (Ashburton Club and Mutual School of Arts), W. 'Hunter (Allenton School), H. Colquhoun (Borough School), !§; G. Macfarlane (Ashburton East School), J. H. Harper (Timvald School Committee), C. H. Hardy (Allenton School Committee), F. Pritchard (Ashburton County Cricket Association), W. H. Barney, R. M. Dunlop, R. L. Stephenson, A. J. Millichamp, W. R. Lane, E. B. Newton, W. McDonald, R. J. Tucker, A. A. Todd, C. F. Parsons, A. R. Gordon, P. A. Cornish, J. Donn, A. Donn, H. J. Crotliers, T. Wilson, E. G. Craighead, W. J. Sparrow and W. Tulfoch. Floral tributes were received from the following.public bodies:—Ashburton Wrestling Association, Ashburton Rugby Referees’ . Association, Hampstead Jubilee Entertainment Committee, Ashburton Cricket Association, Staffs of St. James and Majestic Theatres, Ashburton East School Committee, Ashburton East School Pupils, Ashburton Rugby Union, Ashburton Silver Band, and Tinwald Ladies' Hockey Club.
