ALARM OF FIRE

OUTBREAK IN A ROOF. Flames from a blow-lamp being used for cleaning paint from the house of Mr A. Freeman, 22 Cameron Street, entered under a gable between the roof and ceiling and caused the calling of the Ashburton Volunteer Fire Brigade shortly after 2 p.m. to-clay. The painters removed a sheet of iron from the roof enabling the brigade, which turned out smartly, to lead a hose on to the fire, kittle damage was done by the flames, but water caused some damage in the room below.
