CENERAL COMMITTEE MEETS. SUGGESTIONS FROM JUDGES. The general committee of the Ashburton Agricultural and Pastoral Association met this afternoon, the president (Mr G. B. H. Lill) presiding. Mr J. Stewart (Rakaia) questioned the award of the New Zealand ISouthdown Society’s gold medal donated by the society for a two-tooth ram. - A report was submitted by Mr S. Andrew who was a steward in the Southdown section at the recent show. It was decided to ask the society for a definition of what sheep were eligible for the medal. Mr M. Bruce wrote suggesting that separate classes he provided for garden and Partridge peas. He also said grain and seed merchants would he pleased to secure entries in the seed section for next show, when the society would celebrate its diamond jubilee. Mrs E. Anderson suggested the provision of a class for fruit pies, made of dripping pastry, in the home industry section. Mr Stanley Smith (judge of the flowers) submitted a number of recommendations concerning the contest for tables decorated by women’s organisations. He considered the varieties should he limited to 20 and the size of the tables to 4ft. byi 3ft. A class for a collection of flowering shrubs would also bo worth while. A number of other suggestions were received from the various sub-commit-tees, and held over for attention before next show. The secretary (Mr AV. H. Amos) submitted a balance-sheet in connection with the recent show, which disclosed a deficit of £ls Os Bd. He stated, however, that there should be no difficulty in balancing the budget when all matters were finalised. The chief receipts were : Gate takings, £319 12s 3d (an increase of about £l3 on last year); entry fees, £359 10s 6d; specials, £l3 l 12s 6d; space, £7l 8s 6d; luncheon privileges, £l2 10s. On the expenditure side it was shown that prizes amounted to £682 16s 4d, and judging expenses to £23 2s. . It was decided to write to Miss B. Harper expressing sympathy in the loss of the well-known light horse Captain Murphy, which had been exhibited at Ashburton shows on numerous occasions. Mr H. C. Barton corrected the impression that he was the breeder of the horse, and stated that he had bought it from the breeder, Mr H. Patterson (Mayfield). The president extended seasons greetings to atiembers, ; and on their behalf Mr Barton reciprocated.
