The entry of fat cattle numbered 211 head, the quality generally being disappointing. Prime heavy bulj locks were in the minority, the bulk oi the yarding comprising medium quality cattle with a larger percentage than usual of cows and heifers. _On account of the short supply, prime heavy bullocks' were in keen demand, values showing an increase of £1 a head compared with rates obtained at the previous sale. .All other descriptions sold 105 a. head firmer. Over the final race the sale had an easing ten.— dency. - , ' . There ivas an entry of 200 head in the store cattle section, there being several pens otthree and four-year-old steers forward, which sold from £5 to £7 Bs. Vealers were in short supply, and met a buoyant sale, while graziers’ cows were also in demand. The small entry of ‘2B dairy cows was of mixed appearance and did not attract much attention, sales being difficult to ef—feet. In the fat sheep section, an entry of 797 was submitted. The display of both ewes and wethers was attractive. The entry being insufficient for reguirements, there was keen competition for all classes, heavy sheep in particular meeting a brisk demand and selling at an advance of 25 to 35 a head. Prime heavywoolly wethers sold to 435, best ewes to 418, and wcthers and ewes out of wool realised to 20s‘and 265. Light" er and medium sheep did not receive the same attention, and the rise in this class was 13 6d a head. The entry of 72 fat lambs met a keen deshowcd an increase of fully 43 a head prevmus sales. In the fat lpig section, 126 were penned. The save of porkers opened with buyers quoting prices on a par with late rates, but the market showed considerable improvement as the sale pro; 1 grassed, and over the final races values 1 were from 53 to 7s a head higher than the opening rates. Baconers partials pated in the rise by 35 to 55 a head. i The store pig offering numbered 92. At the wool sales 12,163 bales were offered, 11,441 sold at auction, and 649 privately. ‘ Good to best descriptions of fleece and skirtings ruled strongly in sellcrs’ favour, while average sorts were particularly firm.
