UNDER THE CLOAK OF ‘ . 'IEMPERANCE -,_.__4.——————MISCHIEVOUS PROPAGANDA. At school we are taught that there are three zones~the frigid, the torrid, and the temperate. The same differences are found in the characters of human beings. The temperate man, that is, the moderate man, swings neither to the frigid ascetism of the prohibitionist. nor to the fervid exuberance of the free liver. The temperate men and women of New Zealand, who constitute the great majority, are impudently ignored by those who lay their nrohibition snare under the cloak of temperance. Temperance is moderation. Most emphatically it is not prohibition. A cause which (leceitfully claims for itself virtneq it does not possess is forecloomed to failure. Temper-aneon-decidedly yes. Prohibition—most emphatically no. New Zealand must meet the. attack on moderation by the solid support of the moderate man’s vote, which. is for Continuance..—(Advt.) .
Razors were used in a dockers’ riot at San Francisco recently, eight men being seriously injured.
