INDICATIONS FOR IMPROVEMENT Conditions in Ashburton are still unsettled, but the barometer is rising steadily, and indicatons are for better weather at the week-end. The barometric pressure at 9 o’clock this morning was 29.68 inches, compared with 29.58 inches yesterday and 29.28 inches on Wednesday. As a result or the sharp showers of rain and hail experienced yesterday afternoon, three points of rain were registered at the Domain weather station. This makes 1.19 inches for November.
A cold southerly wind blew to-day, and the sky was mainly overcast, with only occasional glints of wave - sunshine. Little rain fell, however. TO-DAY’S FORECAST., (Per Press Association.) WELLINGTON, This Day. The Government Meteorologist, at noon to-day, issued the following statement regarding the weather: — General inference: Pressure is still low to the cast, ibut has been rising over New Zealand with the advance of an anti-cyclone across the Tasman Sea. The forecast for the east coast of the South Island from Blenheim to Oamaru is as follows: — Southerly winds, strong to gale force, but slowly moderating. Weather cold, squally and showery, but improving shortly. Sharp frosts inland. Seas rough to high, but decreasing.
