AN AGREEMENT
THRESHING-MILL WORKERS.
APPLICATION FOR AWARD. V (Special to the “ Guardian.”) CHRISTCHURCH, November 7. The question of shifting time was the only issue in dispute when, negotiations for a new award were continued to-day in the Conciliation Council by the Canterbury Agricultural and Pastoral Labourers’ Union and the North Canterbury American-type Threshing JVlill Owners’ Union of Employers. The Commissioner (Mr S. Ritclii?) presided ; and, the assessors were: Employers, Messrs;/I)7 I. ■ Mae-; donakl, W, L. Donald; M. J. Bowman, and F.' ,W. Zimmerman - employees, Messrs A, Cook, J. Neville, and C. E. Baldwin. The employers' assessors _ contended that shifting time was a part of the operation that was paid for in the rates provided. The employees’ assessors refused to accept that interpretation, holding that the men, should be paid for actual work performed. They asserted that the work of setting the mill was quite distinct from the threshing operations.
It was agreed that shifting time should be as in the old award and, on agreement haying been previously reached on the questions of hours of work and uniform rates of pay, it was decided to apply to the Arbitration Court for an award to operate to July, 1936.
