£550 FOR BORDER LEICESTER. /

SUFFOLK LAMB MAKES £9O. At Kelso ram sale £550, the highest price since 1920, was paid for a Border Leicester shearling consigned by Mr James C. Moyes, Renmure (reports a Home paper). There was a keen duel for possession of this ram, which was bought by Mr J. S. Dickson acting for Mr R. 0. Cameron, Greenlawden. Mr Moyes had an average of £59 16s for twelve rams, a very' considerable advance on last -year’s £ls 4s 2d. Most of the flock averages, however, were down from last year. Messrs T. and M. Templeton had the highest average for Border Leicesters —£60 for sixteen rams, compared with £BB 18s 9d last year Three of the Sandyknowe sheep made j£22o (bought by Mr John Young), £135 and £IOO.

Mr R. C. Cameron, who had an average of £45 for ten Border Leicester shearlings, as against £62 2s last year, received £IOO for his second prize winner at the Royal Show, and £92 for the ram that was second at the Highland Show and fourth at the Royal. Other high prices included £l2O for a Woopertoii ram, and £IOO for Mi’ H. B. Moyes’ (Kilmux) reserve champion at the Fife County Show. Suffolks made up to £9O for one of Commander J. A. Duncan’s ram lambs from Parkhill, this being the highest price for this breed at Kelso for a. number of years. The lamb, which ,is by the £220 Colony Royal, was bought for the Earl of Ellesmere. 3 Oxfords * sold up to £43, paid for Messrs Templeton’s shearling that was champion at the Highland and the Border Union Shows, the buyer being Mr Scott. , , Among the half-breeds the leading price was £36, gven by Mr Marshall, Chatton Park, for one of the Hownam Grange lot. Southdowns made up to £2l 5s (Northwood), and Hampshire ram lambs to £2l (Swinhoe).
