AUCKLAND, November 5
Paul Edwin Din, for Post Office Savings Bank frauds, was sentenced to three years’ hard labour. Counsel (Mr A. Moody) referred to similar cases where probation had been granted. Mr Justice Fair said there must have been exceptional circumstances of probation in the cases quoted. The offences in this case were planned cunningly and carried out on bold lines. There was an apparent desire to live a life of luxury and comfort at the expense of other peopde. During the hearing of the case it was stated that a sum of, over £4OOO was involved in the charges. When accused was arrested lie had in his possession bank notes and drafts to the value *of £1406. Subsequently further large sums were recovered.
