ENTRIES AT THE SHOW.

DISPLAY CARRIES .WIDE APPEAL,

The appeal which is exerted by /the Ashburton Agricultural and Pastoral Association’s annual exhibition of stock, farm and dairy produce, and domestic crafts is to be found in the wonderful response on the part of competitors each year. All sections of the community are represented among the competitors, for the schedule provides ample scope for the display of exhibits prepared by peopio living in the towns as wed as those coming from the country areas. At the 59th show on Thursday tho entries reach the very satisfactory total of 2886, which is exactly ten times the total at the first show ever held by the Association.- From all reports, it appears that in interest, variety of appeal, and quality this show will rival any the Association has yet promoted, and a large attendance of patrons is assured if the weather conditions are at all reasonable. In the sheep classes there are 43J entries, a substantial rise oyer the 3bl penned last year, which marked the record for the Association. The V ens also create interest and this year competition will be keener than ever The horse rings usually draw a large number of spectators and the jumping events keep the interest for a large portion of the afternoon. _ There are* 415 entries in the horse section, and in cattle there is a total of 106. In both these sections there is a decrease on the figures of 1934, but tho number is very satisfactory. The farm and dairy produce and domestic sections have brought forward a total of 1841 entries, and competition will be keen here, too. Rabbits have fallen off to a good extent, there being only 43, compared with 83 a year ago, and dogs have increased m number —42, in place of 34 last year. There are only eight pigs, where last
