man killed instantly. STRUCK BY TRAIN AT AMRERLEY. (Per Press Association). CHRISTCHURCH, Nov. 8. Mr Henry McCausland, aged 57, a labourer, was killed instantaneously about 5 o’clock on Saturday afternoon, ■when be was struck by a mixed tram at the Amberley crossing. Mr McCausland was stone deaf and though the driver sounded the whistle twice, he walked on to the line in front of the engine. He was carried 25 yards along the line and then fell off. Hie was dead when a doctor reached the (place two minutes later. The crashing is not dangerous, * nd no accidents have happened there for a long time. No lights were burning on the train at the time, but Mr McCausland should have been able to see 400 yards up the line in the direction from which the train was approaching
