The General Manager of Railways announced to-day, on behalf of the Railways Board, the financial results of the railway working for the fourweekly period which ended on October 12. The gross revenue, amounting to £473,576, increased by £28,915, while the expenditure, amounting to £434,844, decreased by £47,956, compared with tne corresponding period last year, making the net revenue for the period £38,732, or £76,871 better than last year. Last year the expenditure exceeded the revenue by £38,139, due to the fact that payment of arrears of the 5 per cent, addition to salaries and wages from April 1, 1934, was included in the expenditure for the October period. For the seven four-weekly periods of the current financial year to date, the revenue has increased by £153,673 and the expenditure by £89,481, making a very satisfactory increase of £64,202 in the net revenue.
