NEW PLYMOUTH, This Day. Although hurled heavily on the road, Mrs A. Dobbin, of Hurstliouse Road, escaped with minor injuries when the car she was driving was struck by an express train at Inglewood yesterday. Mrs Dobbin, accompanied by her 11-year-old son, was driving an open small car and was almost across the line when the car was struck by the engine. The car was thrown clear, Mrs Dobbin being thrown out. She had a surprising escape from serious injury, suffering only superficial cuts on her head and a severe shaking. The boy was not injured. The car was almost completely wrecked.
INQUEST ON MOTOR VICTIM.
WELLINGTON, November 1
At the inquest on Mrs Emily Elizabeth Bethune, whose death resulted from a motor accident on Paokakariki Hill on October 20, the verdict of the Coroner was that she died in hospital from internal injuries sustained when a motor-car in which she was a passenger overturned while travelling up Paekakariki Hill.
The evidence showed that on a bad corner the driver found that the steering had jammed somehow and the discovery was made too late to prevent the car going over the hank. Che car was travelling slowly at the time.
