PREMIER WOUNDED

AN OUTRAGE IN CHINA. SHOT AT A CONFERENCE. (United Press Association—Copyright) % NANKING,-. November 1. At the-opening session of the National Kuomintang conference, while the delegates were being photographed, a man whipped out a revolver and fired repeatedly, seriously wounding Wang Chingwei (Premier and Foreign Minister). At the same time he wounded Cliank Chi, a veteran member of the Kuomintang, and Kang Lai-kuan, chief of Marshal Chiang Kai-shek’s political training bureau. The assailant was immediately shot down by Wang’s bodyguard. Wang was hit above the cheek. He was rushed to a hospital and is expected to recover. His assailant was critically injured, and was taken to the same hospital, which troops and police are guarding.

The conference was adjourned indefinitely.

ACCOMPLICES FIRE AT POLICE..

(Received This Day, 10.10 a.m.) NANKING, November 1. It is now ascertained that Wang’s assailant, a Chinese correspondent, and two accomplices fired at the police and troops, who arrested them after they bad exhausted their ammunition. The Japanese Consul has issued a denial that Japanese were involved.

TEN ARRESTS MADE.

PRECONCEIVED PLAN INDICATED

Chin-wei’s assailant has been identified as Sun Ming-hsud, an exsergeant of the Cantonese 19th Route Army. A preconceived plan is indicated by the fact that the assailant was not a newspaperman, but obtained: the status of a journalist some weeks ago. Ten arrests have been made, including the two who surrendered, and a woman Communist.

Wang is reported, to have an even chance of recovery, and his assailant, of surviving.
