THE LAMBING
PERCENTAGES IN NORTH.
POOR THIS SEASON.
(Special to the “Guardian.”) WELLINGTON, October 31
From information received from its district branches a Wellington stock and station firm learns that operators will buy on the basis of 9£d for prime early lambs for prompt shipment. During the past fortnight due to unfavourable spring weather, the lambing percentage in the Auckland district is well down on that of last year. In the Waikato it is estimated at 15 to 20 per cent, reduction due to poor weather and a larger proportion than usual of dry ewes. In the King Country lambing is believed to be 20 per cent, below normal, but there is now ample feed. Demand for stock is said to exceed supply, and prices have reached high levels. The export parity will have to be considerably better than it was last year to justify the prices that have been paid. In the Wanganui and Manawatu districts the feed is now coming along well. The season'has been very backward, and there is believed to be a decline of 15 per cent in the lambing. Forward business in weaned lambs for delivery in January has been reported at £1 for black faces and 17s for white.
