In celebrating the Burroughes Watts centenary, billiards was played on a century-old table, with an oaken bed on which the balls rumbled peculiarly,, recoiling little (from tl(e cushions, made of list. W. J. Peall, ex-cliampion, now an octogenarian, scored 1000 in 44 minuteb.

In 1884, before the spot stroke was barred, Peall played an exhibition match in which the spot stroke was permitted, and beat Sydney Fry, aged 66, ex-amateur champion, by 225 to 187.
