KINGSFORD SMITH
STILL SEEKING A PERMIT .
United Press Association —Copyright) LONDON, October 16. Sir Charles Kingsfordi Smith is still negotiating with the Air Ministry, seeking permission to carry a load of fuel in excess of the American regulations. The trouble is practically identical with his experience with the Australian Civil Aviation Department, but the Air Ministry so far shows no signs of similarly yielding by granting a dispensation to fly heavily overladen, though a compromise may be effected.
It was recently announced that Sir Charles Kingston! Smith had abandoned liis attempt to break the record for a flight from England to Australia, as the Air Ministry regulations necessitated alterations to his machine. These alterations would reduce the petrol capacity by about 100 gallons, thus limiting the range of the machine to 1500 miles. y
