THE SINGAPORE DOCK
FINAL TEST SUCCESSFUL. CARRY HEAVIEST BATTLESHIPS. United Press Association— Copyright) (Received This Day, 8.50 a.m.) LONDON, October 17. . A message to the “Sun-Herald setvice says it is now possible to operate the entire British Fleet in the Pacific from the shelter of a well-fort fled, strategic point, as a result of a successful final test of the vast ne\v graving dock at Singapore, advice of which lias reached British official quarters. The dock demonstrated its ability to take the strain of the heaviest battleship afloat. 'Sixty-nine million gallons of water, exceeding 300,000 tons, were pumped and syphoned into the dock during the fortnight from the Straits of Jahore. The terrific pressure on the sides and floor caused no sinking, shifting or bending. This proved that the Hood, Rodney or Nelson would be able to refit at Singapore.
