Laval, the British Ambassador reminded him that at the time of the strengthening of the Mediterranean Fleet the French Government was officially informed of what was being done, and he expressed no dissent, but, on the contrary, stated that it fully understood why the step was necessary. It was certainly not the intention of the British Government to reduce the strength of the British forces in the Mediterranean until the danger which necessitated the precautionary measures had been removed.
