ASHBURTON STOCK MARKET.

SALES OF STORE SHEEP. Sales' of store sheep made at the Ashburton stock sale yesterday were: — Fifty ewes and 54 lambs ot 9s 6d, 35 ewes and 47 lambs at 9s 9d, 15 ewes and 22 lambs at 11s, 25 ewes at 17s.

NEW ZEALAND MEAT. RETAIL 'PRICES IN LONDON. The New Zealand Meat Producers’ Board has been advised by its London manager that the following retail prices were quoted for New Zealand lamb and mutton retailed in London "during September. These prices represent a fair average quoted by the better-class shops for the best quality: — Lamb—Legs Hid per lb, shoulders 10id, loins 10id, necks 6d, breasts 3d, forequarters’ 7id, hindquarters 10id. Mutton—Wethers: Legs 9d per lb, shoulders Bd, loins 7id, necks 3d, breasts 2d.

THE AUCKLAND MARKETS. (Special to the “Guardian”). AUCKLAND, October 8. Spot stocks of potatoes axe sufficient for requirements, and. | the market is practically unchanged at last week's high rates—-18s 6d to 19s. Small lots of seed potatoes are still inquired for, but sucE orders are hard to fill. With the arrival of a fresh shipment from California, the onion market is fairly well supplied, but with some merchants short, last week’s prices have been maintained at 25s per 1001 b for both Canadian and Californian. Bran is still very scarce. Backward weather conditions have brought about prolonged ancl_ keen demand, with the result that millers have to ration thencustomers. Merchants are now asking £6. 10s a ton, as against £6 5s last week. [Pollard, too, is still soiling freely, but regular shipments from Australia supplementing local supplies have enabled requirements to be met. Maize .is in very short supply, apparently, as a result of shelling operations having been interfered with by wet weather a few weeks back. Small quantities only are coming forward from the Bay of Plenty and from Gisborne, and in the face of the keen demand, local selling rates have advanced 3d a bushel to 4s IDd.

WHEAT PRICES IN.BRITAIN. (United Press Association— Copyright) LONDON, October 7. Wheat cargoes are firmer, and paicels are firm and dearer. Futures:—London: February 2/s 2d per quarter; April 27s 5d Liverpool: October 6s lOid per cental; Decernbei 6s Sjd; March 6s 2Jd.

THE SHARE MARKET. The following sales were made on the Christchurch Stock Exchange yesterday : LISTED STOCKS. Sales on ’Change.

SYDNEY WOOL SALE. STRONG COMPETITION. SYDNEY, October 8. At the wool sales to-day 12,967 bales were offered, 12,165 were sold at auction, and 1260 privately. Strong and general competition was forthcoming from Yorkshire and Japan, with good support from the Continent. For the best spinners’ wools, suitable for Yorkshire, the market ruled from par to 5 per cent, above closing rates

last week. Other descriptions were firm and unchanged. Greasy merino sold to 19£d. The average price last week was 11.9 d per lb, or £ls 3s 3d a hale.
