LONDON* October S. The Peking correspondent of “The Times” says that 1000 more lives have been lost in the floods at northern Kiangau. The entire town of Machengan. as submerged. Northern Honan is similarly suffering severely, while the southern part of the province is in the grip of famine because of drought. The refugees are reduced to eating graso, roots, and tree-bark. Desperate parents are selling their children for a handful of rice.
