RAIN IN AUCKLAND
BENEFIT TO PRODUCTION.
(Per Press Association). AUCKLAND, October 7.
Generous rains . during the last week-end, coupled with spells of warm sunshine, have proved of enormous benefit to farmers, and spring growth in the pastures has at last become general. On the whole, farmers have viewed the weather over the last month with apprehension. August conditions were promising, and increases in dairy production were general. Last month, however, feed was abnormally short, and at a conservative estimate production was fully 10 per cent, below that during the corresponding period last year. From now onward a marked . improvement is anticipated, and it is hoped that by the time the peak of the season is reached in mid-Novem-ber, full recovery will have been made. Lambs have also been very late, following on the comparatively poor lambing, with many dry ewes and a low percentage of twins. Beef graziers have found it extremely hard to get enough stock to take advantage of one of the highest-price periods of recent years.
