ASHBURTON STOCK MARKET.

A LARGER YARDING TO-DAY.

PRICES EASE Is to Is Gd A HEAD.

Sheep penned at the Ashburton saleyards to-day for the weekly stock market were genei’ally of good quality. Some fine pens of prime ewes and wethers were seen, and the animals were both in the wool arid shorn. With a yarder yarding than at Tinwald last week, prices showed an easing tendency and values were from Is to Is Gd lower.

Mr J. Butterick (Wakanui) topped the fat ewe market with seven at 26s 7d, and Mr T. Corbitt (Greenstreet) sold four at 26s 4d; Mr It. Robertson (Newlands) made 26s Id for four. Several pens were knocked down at 25s lOd. Among the shorn ewes, the best prices were I9s Id for four and Ids 7d for five, both lots on account of Mr H. J. Wilson (Dromore). Three fat wethers which made 27s 7d for Mr L. F. Bennett (Ruapuna) Were the highest priced sheep of this class auctioned. Mr R. H. Hampton (Pendarves) sold three at 27s Id. Mr H. T. Stevens (Rakaiaj), received 20s lOd for six shorn wethers.

Mrs E. M. Begg (Wakanui), was the most successful vendor of spring lambs disposing of four at 27s Id. Six fat hoggets from a, client and four from Mr R. H. Hampton (Pendarves) were disposed of at 20s lOd. Prices up to 12.15 p.m. were as follow : Fat Ewes. In the Wool.—On account of D. M. Bruce (Lowcliffe), 3at 15s Id; R. Wool yalues firmed appreciably at the sale yesterday, being up to 10 pet cent, higher than they were a week ago. Competition was wider and keener, and a 95 per cent, clearance was made. Merino wool sold, tp 21d.

MODERATE TRADE AT BRADFORD

At the Bradford wool market there is moderate business, mainly in merinos. For crossbreds, sellers are asking 30£d, but can obtain only 30d.
