NOT NOW LIKELY

MR E. F. NICOLL AS CANDIDATE.

THE MID-CANTERBURY SEAT.

NATIONALISTS TO DECIDE ON FRIDAY.

It is not likely that Mr E. F. Nicoll will contest the Mid-Canterbury seat at the general election next month.

Speaking to a “Guardian” reporter this morning, Mr Nicoll said that his business demanded his attention, and it was not likely that he would be persuaded to accept nomination as National candidate for this seat.

Mr J. W. M. Dart, of Methven, is also mentioned as a possible nomination. He lias been approached by several supporters on the matter, but has not yet given a definite reply. A meeting of National supporters from all sections of the electorate has been called for next Friday, when, it is understood, every endeavour will be made to finalise the nomination of a National candidate. If a decision is not reached at that meeting, a choice will be made [early next week. The names of three other possible contenders for nomination will probably be submitted to the meeting. One of these men resides in the County, and the others reside in Christchurch.
