BRITAIN’S DEFENCE
THE CONSERVATIVE! POLICY.
SECURITY RASED ON STRENGTH. (United Press Association —Copyright) LONDON, October 3. jSubmitting a motion at the Conservatives’ conference, Sir Edward Grigg said: “Our freedom is again challenged by dictators. If the British Empire is weak there will be a scramble, plunging the world into continuous war.” Mr Winston Churchill said that the policy of the Socialists seemed to be to disarm and quarrel, whereas the Conservatives’ policy was security, based on strength and peace with honour. The Chancellor had admitted that Britain had been hampered in diplomacy by the foreigners’ idea that she had neglected defence. Personally, he was of opinion that Europe would not be in its present position if Britain had not reduced her forces to the danger point. He hoped an eleventh-hour rectification would not be too_ late.
