ANGLING.

FEW EARLY SUCCESSES.

THE UNFAVOURABLE WEATHER

As is often the case in the Ashburton County, the fishing season had no sooner opened than north-westerly weather was experienced and the local rivers were dirty. A number of fish were taken, chiefly on the worm, in the Ashburton on the opening day last week, anglers being successful both at Hakatere and upstream. Very few fish were caught at the big rivers, although many sportsmen made these resorts their venue on Tuesday. The Ashburton River has been dirty since the first two days of the season, and the Ilakaia was also unfishab’le for the week-end.

Sport was possible at the Riangitata, however, but* few fish were bagged. So far no reportsfcof any good catches have come to hand.
