AIR RAID FEARED.
ADDIS ABABA HELPLESS. ANTIQUATED DEFENCES. ADDIS ABABA, October 4. An air raid on the capital is expected after the departure for Italy of the Minister and his staff. The “Sun-Herald” correspondent says that fear of an air raid made sleep impossible in Addis Ababa last night. The day broke cloudless with a blazing sun. “We feel safe for another day. The Emperor did not sleep at the palace but was provided rj'ith secret quarters. In the event of an air raid, the town will bo helpless, the only defence being six anti-aircraft guns, three of which would not kill a flock of crows. The only question at the moment is when will the enemy ’planes arrive?” Five foreign journalists, fearing that their hotel was overnear the wireless station for comfort in the ev/.nt of air raids, loaded their camping equipment
on lorries and set out for open country. The police turned them back. The American Consul gav,e them ft large Stars and Stripes to spread over the roof of the hotel.
