GERMANY AND ITALY.
POSSIBLE ASSISTANCE DISCUSSED FRANCO-BRITISH RELATIONS. LONDON, October 4. The Rome correspondent of the British United Press says that Signor Mussolini had a long conference with Herr Ulrich von Hassel (German Ambassador), discussing the possibility of Germany assisting Italy in the event of financial and economic sanctions being imposed. The Berlin correspondent of “The Times” says that the newspapers in Germany continue to preserve the broad lines of neutrality enjoined in Herr Hitler’s policy of disinterestedness. <-
The greatest interest lies in the result of the strain to which FrancoBritish relations will be subjected. Indignation is expressed at France’s endeavour to drive a bargain committing Great Britain to hypothetical future action, obviously directed against Germany. Great Britain’s repudiation of such a bargain was received with satisfaction.
