CIRCUIT MEETING

THE METHODIST CHURCH.

THE WILLOWBY DISTRICT. The quarterly meeting of the Willowby Methodist Circuit was held last evening at the residence of Mr T. H. Chapman. The Rev. R. McGregor presided over a representative gathering. Reports of the various Sunday schools were given by the /Superintendents.

The resignation of Mr R. J. Chapman as secretary of the quarterly board was accepted with regret, special record to be made of his many years of efficient service. Mr E. C. Roberts was unanimously elected to fill the vacancy. Owing to Summer-time, the evening services at Willowby, Ealing, Hinds, and Tinwald will commence at 7 p.m. Votes of sympathy were passed with the relatives of the late Miss A. C. Lloyd, raid of the late Mr John Williams, who was a foundation member of the Quarterly Board and an active church worker for many years in the district. A letter of welcome was directed to be sent to Mr and Mrs Hight, and letters of cheer to Mrs Cross, senr., in her illness, and to Mr Arthur Lill. Special mention was made of the fine work of Mr Kenneth Robinson, who ably acted as supply during the illness of Mr McGregor.

Appreciative mention was made of the formation of a “Boys’ Brigade” by the Rev. D. D. McLaelilan, of Tinwald.

Reference was made to the loss the circuit had sustained through the removal to Ashburton of Mr and Mrs Laurie Cross. As organist and society steward, Mr Cross lias been a great asset to Ealing and Lowcliffe congregations.

Mr Hitchens, who has been a valued society steward for many years at Tinwald, tendered his resignation, which was accepted with regret.

The action of the circuit stewards with regard to the ministerial invitation for 1936 was approved. Mention was made of the jubilee of the Waterton Church, which takes place early in November. The garden Party Committee reported that matters in connection with the forthcoming events were well in hand, and several stalls were applied for. Mr G. H. R. Lili and Mr A. Ellis were elected representatives to Synod, to be held in Temuka early in November, with Mr W. T. Lill and Mr E. C. Roberts as substitutes.

The circuit stewards were appointed auditors lor ,the trust accounts, and Mr S-. H. Lill and Mr E. O. Roberts were elected to audit the circuit ac counts.

The invitation by Mrs Lill to bold the January meeting at “Haeremai” was accepted with thanks.

At the conclusion of the meeting a bountiful supper was provided by Mrs K. Chapman, Miss G. Chapman, Mrs Jackson and Mrs Dakers. The thanks of the meeting for hospitality was voiced by Mr Hay man.
