DISASTER OVER THE OCEAN.
WRECKAGE IN BASS STRAIT. (United: Press Association—Copyright) - •’ MELBOURNE; October -2..... The new liner aeroplane Loina, bemen, including two passengers aboard, left Melbourne at 8.15 a.m. for Launceston and disappeared over v Bass Strait. A message was received from the aeroplane at 9.51, indicating that it was aboitt to land on Flinders Islands, but no trace of it was found there.
The civil authorities report that wreckage and a, lifebelt have been sighted near Long Point, Flinders Island.
One of the occupants of the missing machine was Mr G. S. Anderson, a business man of Launceston. Others were Messrs Anderson, Brown and Best., Mr Anderson came from Sydney- . . ; The Loina is a D.H. 86 four-engmed machine of the same type that, figured in two disasters last year, one over Bass Strait,; and the other near Longreach, Queensland. The previous Bass Strait accident , was- also to a of Holy man’s Airways; • v The same type of machine is in use on the Brisbane to Singapore 1 sectidn of the Australia-Englancl service, and on one of Imperial Airway’s routes. The Loina was a practically new machine. .;
