BARRHILL. Tiie Ban-hill Social Club held its fortnightly social and cards evening in the Barrhill School. The winners at euchre ware Mrs J. Brawley and Mr A. Y. Fairey. The prizes were given by Miami Mrs 0. E. Hooper. Music for the dancing was played by Mr T. Lawler, with extras by Miss D. Chambers and Mr H. Leamaii. A Monte Carlo dance was won by Miss E. Marsh and Mr J. Keane. Mr W. Holmes was master of ceremonies.
LAURISTON. Mrs 1). B. Ashford (Rakaia) presided at a special meeting of the women of the Lauriston Presbyterian Church, held in the vestry, and very well attended. It was agreed to hold a sale of work on December 5, the proceeds of which, it is hoped, will defray the cost of painting the church. The following were appointed stallholders: — Needlework, Mesdames J. Mackie, E. G. Hayward, Cl Fyfe and Miss A. Hampton; refreshments, Misses E. Lemon, M. Farquhar and J. Hayward; produce and cake, Mesdames J. G. Lilley, J. Jacobs, R. Cairns and D. McFarlane; novelty, Misses M. Hampton, M. Lemon and L. Letham; sweets, Mrs F. Letham, Mrs Doak and Miss I. Letham; ice cream, Mrs A. Goodwin; bookstall, Miss McNaught; dip, Miss It. Letham. Mrs and Miss Ashford entertained those present with two very pleasing vocal duets, and Miss Ashford also gave two most amusing humorous recitations. On the motion of Mrs E. G. Hayward, Mrs and Miss Ashford were accorded a. hearty vote of appreciation. Afternoon tea was served by the hostesses, Misses Ml and A. Hampton and L. and E.' Letham.
