OBITUARY

MR MURDO McLEOD.

(Special to the “ Guardian.”) CHRISTCHURCH, This Day. Mr Murdo McLeod, who was for many year! a well-known farmer in Mid-Canterbury, has died at his home in Clyde Road, Fendalton. He was horn in Scotland in 1844, and came to New Zealand in 1874.

For more than twenty years he managed the Double Hill station at Metliven. The station, which at that time had a carrying capacity of 40,00() firstclass merino sheep, was then owned bv Mr William Gerard. Leaving Double Hill, he bought a farm at Gapes Valley, Geraldine, which he farmed for three years and then sold. He returned to Methven, where lie purchased a. farm from Mr John Gunn, comprising about 1(X)() acres, and later bought an adjoining property of 500 acres. Mr McLeod was a. very successful sheepfarmer and produced some ol the best prime Canterbury lambs in the district.

Two of his sons, Messrs Angus and Donald McLeod, went to the Great War, and on their return the former took over his father’s farm, Mr McLeod purchasing another property . of 750 acres for the latter. After this he retired from active work ancl came to Christchurch, where ho lived.up to the time of his death. He is survived by his wife, two sons and one daughter, Mr C. G. Cratv (Bayfields, Hororata).
