DECISIONS OF CONFERENCE

CHRISTCHURCH, September 26 Delegates from the Nelson, Duller, Reefton, Marlborough South, Marlborough, Canterbury, Otago and Southland Progress Leagues attended a conference to-day, the first to be held foi five years. It was agreed that the completion of Westport-1 nangnhua, fnangahua-Ka-watiri and South Island mam trunk lines should be recommended to the Government A remit expressing the opinion that the gold mining industry should be freed from oppressive taxation, and in particular from the export duty of 12s del an ounce, was approved. It was decided that the next conference should he held in Invercargill, the date to be decided later.

The advertising of the scenic attractions of the South Island in the North Island and overseas, with particular reference to the Holly lord Valley, the speedy completion of the Haast Pass and Lewis Pass roads and a permanent shipping .service between Melbourne and the South Island, were among other remits carried.
