THE BARING SQUARE/CLUB
THE ANNUAL MEETING. The Baring Square Methodist Tennis Club’s annual meeting was held in the Baring Square Schoolroom last evening, the president (the Rev. G. B. Hinton) being in the chair. There was a fair attendance, and the enthusiasm shown by those present augurs well for the ensuing season. Nine new members were elected.
The report and statement of income and expenditure were received. The credit balance on the year’s working showed a slight increase. It was decided to hold the opening day on Saturday, October 12, and a social the same evening. The following officers were elected:— Patron, Mr F. Frampton; president, the Rev. G. B. Hinton ; vice-presidents, Messrs W. H. Higgins, 0. F. Horrill and W. L. Morgan; secretary, Mr L. Armstrong; captain, Mr R. Horrill; vice-captain, Mr K. Fowke; management committee. Misses Horrill, T.
Fowke, and Messrs W. C. Bishop, H. Money and F. Stone; auditor, Mr W. H. Higgins; treasurer, Mr B. Dobbie. It was decided to grant one year’s free membership to two junior Biblo Class girls and two Bible Class boys, respectively, at the discretion of the class leaders.
Trophies were presented by the patron as follow: —Ladies’ handicap singles (Morgan Cup), Miss Honoru Brown; ladies’ junior championship singles, Miss Mabel Horrill; combined handicap doubles (Frampton Cup), Miss E. Weston and N. Leadley; men’s handicap singles (Higgins Cup), K. Fowke; men’s senior championship singles, R. F. Horrill; men’s* junior championship singles, N. Leadley.
