RETAILING OF MEAT
COMPETITION OF FREEZING WORKS.
A CHRISTCHURCH COMPLAINT,
(Special to the “Guardian.”) CHRISTCHURCH, This Day
Alarm at the growth of a, considerable retail trade in meat at freezing works was expressed) by a deputation from the Master Butchers’ Association that waited upon the North Cantei*bury branch of the New Zealand Farmers’ Union yesterday. The speakers, Messrs J. iSkeltoni (president) and J. H. Shaw, claimed that it was as much in the farmers’ interests as of the butchers’ to have the practice checked!, because the decline in the butchers’ trade meant that they were less able to pay good prices for stock at the Addington market. The matter was referred to the agricultural committee for c'onsideration.
