THEATRE SEATING.

Sir,—Together with many others, 1 •have had my enjoyment of the programme at the new St. James Theatre spoilt by the cramped seating accommodation. I understand that our Borough by-laws were brought up-to-date a year or two ago, and provide that the seats in theatres must be at least 16 inches wide and the rows of seats at least three feet apapt. Not having taken a tape measure with me I cannot say wliat the measurements in the theatre are, so I shall ho pleased if you will inform me through the medium of your valuable columns what the actual measurements are, and if the by-laws have been complied with. If the measurements do satisfy the requirements of the by-laws, then the latter are not so up-to-date as we were led to believe, and should he altered.
